Careers Day
On Thursday we had careers day. A group of people from different careers came to share more about what they did for there job and try and give more information to the people who are looking in pursuing that career. I mostly enjoyed the youth work set up. One of the two pictures above are of me scooping fizzy drinks in a digger, the other was me at the fire tent water the grass.

Short Poem On Trees
Trees
I love to grow up high where the sun shines, the birds fly free and the wind blows
My buds bloom and blossom and my leaves turn green and bright
I help your fire grow, your houses stand and your hands draw.

A Water Indicator
Today at Electronics we learnt that when the plants are thirsty they cannot speak to us be we can use electronics to communicate with them. I learnt that which substances have more moisture in them. If there was moisture in the LED it would light up. This is a breadboard model of the sensor. The circuit diagram I drew on Circuit Lab app.
A Water Indicator
How does it work?
In this circuit the transistor is acting as a switch.
In dry soil, the resistance between the probes very high & the transistor receives little or no base current and it cannot turn on.
In moist soil, the resistance is much lower, and the transistor receives enough base current to enable it to turn on, lighting the LED.

Earthling Report
This week we had imagine we were a alien that came to earth and found a stack of magazines and read them. Then we had to write a report about what they thought people looked like and what they do, just for reading the magazines. This is my report.
Hello my people,
Today I have discovered earthlings. You see I was climbing aboard a spaceship then before I knew it the spaceship took off heading towards a blue and green beautiful planet and I seem to have landed on this planet. As I have now learnt earthlings have everything! Lightly tanned skin unlike us and long gorgeous hair. Everywhere I look they are to be having fun, smiling while showing off their shiny white teeth in two perfect straight lines.
Earthlings have odd things on there feet that seem to be called shoes the females wear high heels on the backs of their shoes. The materials they wear on their skin they call clothes are bright bold and colourful. But wait there's more, the device they hold in their hands is called a phone that can control everything up to the big, new and fashionable cars they drive. Amazing right. There is never a dull day on earth, It's always bright and sunny. Every minute of every day is spent outdoors or doing useful activitys. The muscles they grow on their stomachs and legs are surprisingly attractive. Woman grow fat when they have a baby in there stomach.
The houses they live in are large and most often white and shiny. Woman grow fat when they have a baby in there stomach. They grow hair on their heads that get styled to suit what they are doing that day. The amount of products they apply to there faces is ridiculous but it pays off their skin it perfect no flaws whatsoever. Now you know as much as I do about Earthlings and their planet do you agree with me and think they are perfect!

Round About Rugby
In maths we have been working on Round About Rugby. The maths part to this was to apply our understanding of scales, chart and timetables to find possible outcomes/combinations.
The way I worked this out was:
Ab,AC,AD,AE,AF,BC,BD,BE,F,CD,CE,CF,DE,DF,EF
We have been approached by the Havelock North Rugby Club to organise a round robin tournament for the six 7th grade teams that they have competing.
The six teams are called:
Anacondas
Bears
Cats
Dingos
Eagles
Falcons
The instructions we have been given are that;
- Each team plays each other team only once.
- There are two fields available for the games. North and South Fields.
- There is to be a half hour break for lunch to rest the referees.
- Each game is played for 30 minutes, with a 10 minute break between games.
- No team will play more than two consecutive games.
- Kick off is 9am.

NYLD
NYLD 2015 has really encouraged me to be the best leader I can be. I feel very much privileged to have attended. The speaker that I found the most Cam Calkoen has encouraged me the most. From being born with a disability to becoming an gold medalist runner and inspiring speaker. NYLD gave me many great ideas and I enjoyed the experience I got. This trip opened many more opportunities for me then I had before and hope this helps me more down the road in my lifes journey. All the speakers inspired me in one way or other. They made all of us there realize that we all have l potential to make a difference in the world you just have to believe in your self. I would like to thank you for the opportunity to go on this trip and visit NYLD.

CSI Reading
Animals and Humans In Conflict
Date:
WALT: Determine the important ideas - “What is my purpose for reading this text?”
Be alert to where important information is in nonfiction and fiction texts. Notice text and graphic information and be guided by the question above.
Summary of important information in Animals and Humans in Conflict:
In 1990 the government had made plans to take gray wolves of the endangered species list. By 1995 the population had grown this became a problem to many with having they livestock getting killed. Wildlife agreed to introduce wolves a less protected status than normal this gave many a huge relief. This created another problem. Many people were killing endangered species accidentally mistaking them for less protected wolves. This problem has not been yet been fixed.
|
The author’s purpose is to: The author's purpose is to raise awareness of the both sides . The author has not taken one side to this argument . And to tell us that people have different opinions on weather to keep wolves or get rid of them.
|
Our opinions on this topic: I think that wolves have done nothing wrong and they do deserve to be taken of the endangered species list. We know that wolves have killed livestock but they do that to be able to live.

Aeroplanes
Aeroplanes
Without this invention lives would be boring have no excitement and it would even be dull. For some people flying on aeroplanes is what they do for a living traveling going on emergency trips all around the world. With no aeroplanes imagine how life would be it would be the same old boring days. You get to experience different cultures, add to your life experiences and more.
When your boss calls you and says I need you here ASAP how do you expect to get to your destination fast without a plane. Planes have many pros such as in the air do you think that traffic is a problem? Also planes have such a big engine which makes them one of your fastest tavling options. A long car trip would cost the same as a plane trip but even better you don't have to drive yourself to your destination in a plane.
Many people live their lives traveling and exploring different parts of the world. You are able to visit family and friends overseas or on the other side of the country fast. You would not be able to have those relaxing family holidays to relieve stress and have fun. It is very convenient now days that we have the aeroplane. Traveling in the past was no here near as quick and easy as it is now all thanks to the aeroplane.
People who get seasick and need to get overseas fast have no other option but to fly in an aeroplane. I know you're probably thinking traveling in cars is dangerous and more expensive than cars but no actually, Traveling in a car is more dangerous than flying in a plane. Aeroplanes are now the safest way to travel.
In your lifetime every person should have experienced going on a plane. A aeroplane gives you the feeling that you can do anything . Just imagine life without planes you can't move countries and you would be stuck on the same boring country your whole life.

Dulce et Decorum Est
Today in writing we made a poem it was a piece of guided writing, modeled on the poem it was called Dulce et Decorum Est
If you had been in the position we all were in you would never say again that it is glorious and an honour to die for your country. If you had seen what we all had seen you would understand.
My terrible experience
We struggle through the mud the mud as high as our thighs . As our chests are in pain as each few seconds we cough we can't stop coughing it hurts .
We all turn our backs on the battle as we march through many soldiers we push and
shove trying to get to safety. We all need rest we are exhausted.
The pain it stings our feet ache as we stumble and crawl to release the pain from our bare feet . Nothing is clear now I just think I need to get to safety. My ears have stopped working I am zoned out I am not paying attention to the bombshells going of or the gun fires only to rest and find safety.
There is a emergency I yell Run Run I say! I Block my mouth turn and stumble away as fast as I could .
I have not got much energy but this is the time to use every little bit of it I have left in me to search through my kit for my gas mask I panic but relief hits me as I put my gas mask on. I turn around the panic comes back one of the soldiers struggling as the gas takes over him it was too late.
The gas has taken over It is difficult to see now the colour of greeny pea soup has closed in on us the gas clouds swirling around us . I struggle to see anything at this point even my own hand.
As I see my friend frantically running toward me as the gas creeps into his lungs he coughs I feel useless as I know soon he will die I knew that memory would stick with me never being able to forget the look on his face.
How would you feel Watching your friend you spent many years of your life getting to know them lying in pain on a wagon dieing right in front of you nothing you can do. Hes holding his throat gasping for air still coughing. kicking his legs around struggling moaning in pain.
Just imagine how we felt pushing our friend across the mud the bumpy hills and the holes from the bombshells whilst listening to him dying in pain moaning groaning and kicking his legs around The wagon unstable and rocking around makes the him cough up blood turns into mucus spew.
If you had been in the position we all were in you would never say again that it is glorious and an honour to die for your country. If you had seen what we all had seen you would understand.

Camp Recount
Death slide
My heart skipped a beat while walking up the hill to the ‘death slide’. My muscles tensed as I pushed my hardest to get to the top, I was determined to be the first girl to go down it. I took off, all the muscles in my body spring into action I made it to the top. I was puffed but at the same time very excited that I had made it to the top first.
My toes were touching the the start of the slide my stomach felt like it had been turned upside down. but i was still not giving up being first. I sat down, I gave myself a little push and I was off. I skidded down the slide, went side to side and up and down.. While I was WHIZZING down the slide I thought this was worth the climb. I realized that I have the worst part to come I had to brace myself for the cold muddy pool at the bottom. Now I was starting to worry what it will feel like. finally I reached the bottom I flew through the air and landed in a muddy pool of water!!
As I stood up I realized I forgot to close my mouth when I was going down the slide, so I had muddy yuck water in my mouth. I spat it out and moved on. but i still had the slightest taste of mud in my mouth I learnt from that to always close my mouth going down the slide! That was one of my favorite activity's at camp. I went down many more times and after that you could have imagined that most people's backsides hurt after that day at camp!
